Breakfast Meeting!  7:30AM to 9:45AM

Due to unforeseen personal circumstances, Anna Tavis will not be able to speak at our breakfast meeting on Thursday.  Anna’s presentation is rescheduled to February 26th.  We are grateful to David O’Malley, Innovation Coach at GE, for stepping in on a short notice.  I have no doubt that you will equally benefit from David’s insightful discussion about a topic that is being discussed throughout the business world. Thank you for your understanding.

Taking Agile Beyond IT: Delivering Value to Talent Development

With Guest Speaker David O'Malley, Innovation Coach at GE Digital

In IT, “Agile” software development has come to mean close collaboration between the development team and business stakeholders, frequent and iterative delivery of code, tight and self-organizing teams, and continuous reflection and self- improvement.  As business leaders face increasing competition and the need to respond more nimbly to quickly changing markets and competition, they have begun to wonder if the lessons learned from Agile’s successes in IT can be applied in other aspects of business.  According to Zappos, ING Bank, and many others, the answer is ‘yes’!

In this presentation, David O’Malley will explain principles of Agile and discuss where Agile and Lean frameworks can, and cannot, be used. We will practice applying these concepts of user-centered design to a talent development situation.

About the speaker:

David O'Malley is an Innovation coach at GE Digital for close to three years, where he has been at the vanguard of GE’s digital transformation and coached teams on three continents. David is a certified Agile coach, scrum master and product owner. Prior to joining GE, David was the Director of Digital at MediFit, based in Norwalk, CT.  He was also a Programmer at Hyperion Solutions and Domino Developer at XL Reinsurance.  He brings not only a wealth of experience in IT and Agile, but a breadth of experience in different industries. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information System Studies from Charter Oak State College and is pursuing a business degree at Sacred Heart University.
